Israel\u2019s Traffic Citation System (Israel\u2019s Traffic Ticket System)<\/b><\/h4>\n

In Israel, it is important to avoid accruing multiple traffic citations (also known as tickets) in a short period of time because the different offenses will not only be treated in isolation, they will also have a compounding effect. This is because of the point system which is used by the traffic authorities in Israel. \"Multiple<\/span><\/p>\n

Israel has a system of traffic violation points<\/a> in which each serious violation causes a certain number of points to be counted against the driver. The points last for two years from the time of the offense, unless the driver already had more than 20 points against them, in which case they last for 4 years.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Following is a non-exhaustive list of some common examples of traffic violations and the number of points they incur against the driver:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

2 points – <\/span> Driving with a passenger that is not wearing a seatbelt<\/span><\/p>\n

4 points – <\/span> Not stopping fully at a stop sign; Using a mobile phone while driving<\/span><\/p>\n

6 points – <\/span> Driving without wearing a seatbelt; Reckless or careless driving<\/span><\/p>\n

8 points – <\/span> Driving more than 25 KMpH above the speed limit;<\/span><\/p>\n

10 points –<\/span> Driving through a red traffic light; Driving with a suspended license<\/a>; driving under intoxication<\/a> (DUI)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Accumulating Multiple Traffic Citations in Israel<\/b><\/h4>\n

The consequences for accumulating a certain number of points are as follows:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If a driver accumulates 12 points or more, they will be required to take a \u201cbasic proper driving course\u201d followed by a final exam.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If they accumulate 22 points or more, they will also be required to take an \u201cadvanced proper driving course\u201d followed by an exam.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If they accumulate 36 points or more, their license will also be suspended for 3 months.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If they accumulate 72 points, or 36 points for a second time in the span of 6 years, their license will be suspended<\/a> for 9 months, at the end of which they will have to retake their driver\u2019s test and driver\u2019s theory test in order to have their license renewed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
